"Girls Running Shit provides a safe space and platform to showcase the talents, businesses, and events of other women and seeing them flourish."
The listenership of podcasts grows exponentially every year. The list of excellent Pittsburgh podcasts grew last August when the Girls Running Shit podcast premiered, finding a home on Blog or Die Radio and Soundcloud. But Girls Running Shit isn't singularly a podcast. It is an expanding Pittsburgh brand, helmed by three creatives with a woman-centric vision.
The trio of Markeea (@MissKeea) Hart, Janita (@basicallynita) Kilgore, and Mia (@miarashawnmarshall) Marshall provide their opinions on a wide variety of topics with one goal in mind. Showcasing women. Girls Running Shit provides a safe space and platform to showcase the talents, businesses, and events of other women and seeing them flourish. But today, we are showcasing each of them, and their contribution to Pittsburgh's culture.
Markeea (Keea) Hart,28, grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, but later moved to Kennerdell, PA. She graduated from the Edinboro University in 2012. After graduating from Edinboro with a B.A. in Mass Communications she moved to Washington D.C. for 5 years to pursue a career in Social Media Marketing. Now back in her hometown she plans on continuing spread peace, love and positivity to her community and continue to show every black woman is a queen, and we all have different things to offer.
Janita Kilgore, 27, is a Pittsburgh native. Janita received her Bachelor's degree in Communications and Media Studies from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Over the years, Janita has developed a love for anything self care and body positive. She wants to one day work for a body positive company, that specializes in creating/running self love/care & body positive campaigns, that aren’t afraid to showcase beauty for everyone from all backgrounds, especially for black women.
Mia Marshall, 27, is born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Although her Bachelors Degree is in Communication Studies, and she is currently pursuing her Masters in Student Affairs (Mia love the kids!), Mia has always had a true passion for all things cosmetology. Mia also values holistic health and beauty methods, and one day wants to own her own holistic beauty shop, where people can come and not only get their outer beauty taken care of, but also explore options for their entire self care practice!
Outside of their regular podcast, Girls Running Shit hosts open mics, holds speaking engagements, and has much more in store. Their next open mic event will be taking place at the Glitterbox Theater on Friday, March 29th at 8:00pm.
